New Dons set £12m target

AFC Wimbledon still hope to return to Plough Lane.

Wimbledon - the First Division side - rejected a move back to their old site in favour of a new stadium at Milton Keynes.

However, angry fans have set up a rival club in the Combined Counties League and hope to raise £12million to buy the land from Safeway.

The plan has the backing of Wimbledon MP Roger Casale, and the local council and a consortium of developers is in place ready to invest in the derelict site if a deal can be struck.

AFC spokesman Kris Stewart said: "There are no real obstacles to stop us moving there and we will launch a campaign to raise funds."
