New Achilles scan is key for Henson hopes

13 April 2012

Gavin Henson will undergo a scan of his damaged Achilles tendon which threatens to keep him out of the Tests with New Zealand and Australia this month.

Wales head coach Warren Gatland admits it is a case of "wait and see" on the centre's fitness after he withdrew from the narrow defeat by world champions South Africa less than 24 hours before kick-off.

He was not considered for Friday night's clash with Canada, raising concerns over his availability when New Zealand arrive on 22 November and then Australia seven days later.

Gatland said: "When I hear back from the specialist, I will be able to make an opinion. It is just wait and see. Like all players, when you come back from an injury, you haven't played a lot of games and you get thrown into big Test matches, there are going to be a couple of doubts."

If Henson is out, then the earliest he could return for Wales would be the Six Nations opener against Scotland at Murrayfield on 8 February.
