Neville awaits fate

The Football Association were today waiting for the report of referee Jeff Winter before deciding what action to take against Manchester United defender Gary Neville for head-butting Steve McManaman in Manchester United's 4-2 win over Manchester City.

The England right-back faces a four-match suspension and was criticised by manager Sir Alex Ferguson after his red card in the 39th minute. Ferguson also slammed Winter for booking Neville for his initial dive in the penalty box only after the altercation which followed. Ferguson said: 'It was an absolutely ridiculous piece of refereeing.'
