Ndour: We will shut up Turkey

13 April 2012

Senegal's Alassane Ndour has warned Turkey to "keep quiet" before their World Cup quarter-final tomorrow.

Turkey coach Senol Gunes is claimed to have dismissed Senegal's chances, and the midfielder said: "We heard that and it gave us more motivation."

Senegal have already become one of the biggest stories of the World Cup by reaching the last eight under Frenchman Bruno Metsu in their first finals appearance.

Metsu told the Turks yesterday not to "denigrate" his side by discussing which team they would like to play in the last four.

The Africans famously beat champions France 1-0 in their opening match and finished runnersup in Group A behind Denmark before defeating Sweden 2-1 in extra time last Sunday.

Ndour said: "We are so happy to have come this far. This World Cup is a learning experience for us, but we believe if we continue to play our own game, tomorrow will be no problem."

Gunes was sweating over the fitness of leftsided midfielder Ergun Penbe (hamstring) and left-back Hakan Unsal (knee).

He said: "Ergun and Hakan have had fitness tests and they will have more today. Then we'll review it again."

Emre Belozoglu, suspended for Turkey's 1-0 second-round win over Japan, returns.
