Naylor seeks tonic for Tractor trauma

13 April 2012

Millwall loan signing Richard Naylor gets a quick chance for revenge when he makes his Lions debut at Manchester City tonight.

The 24-year-old striker was on the Ipswich bench for City's 4-1 FA Cup win at Portman Road on Sunday before signing for Millwall on a month's loan the following day.

Naylor, who has been with the Tractor Boys since 1995, said: "I'm looking forward to putting things right tonight.

"I'm hoping that I can help Millwall win a few games over the next month, and if things go well and both Ipswich and Millwall are happy then maybe the move can be more permanent, but it's up to the two clubs really.

"I can see Millwall being able to do what Ipswich have done by reaching the Premiership and staying there.

"As far as the Manchester City game is concerned I think Ipswich gave them too much time and space to play their football on Sunday, so I'm sure manager Mark McGhee will have seen that and will ensure that we don't make the same mistake."

With Steve Claridge out for two weeks due to a knee problem, McGhee could put Naylor straight into the starting line-up, although he does have top scorer Richard Sadlier available again after injury.

McGhee said: "Hopefully, Richard will prove to be the first of a number that we would like to sign, both on a permanent and a temporary basis.

"We do need more depth going into the last 12 or 15 games of the season. We're looking to make sure that we've got the depth of quality in every position."
