Navratilova loses out

13 April 2012

Martina Navratilova, 47, has been beaten in her first singles match as a professional for nine and a half years.

Navratilova, who holds a record 167 singles titles, lost 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 to Milagros Sequera of Venezuela in the first round of the Amelia Island WTA championship in Florida.

"I think that I lost it mentally," Navratilova said. "I couldn't sustain my concentration for the entire match, so my mental stamina wasn't there."

Navratilove hopes to represent the US at the Athens Olympics in August.
