Nasser's warning over Ashes hopes

13 April 2012

Nasser Hussain flew into Heathrow this morning and warned fans not to get too carried away after England's fourth Test series victory in a row.

The England captain, who will have treatment at Essex for the groin injury that has kept him out of the one-day matches with Sri Lanka, says this summer's Ashes series offers the real challenge.

Hussain, who led the side to a 2-1 Test series win over Sri Lanka, said: "Just because we win four on the bounce does not mean we are closer to Australia. We will find out in the summer.

"Our fielding leaves a lot to be desired. Our fitness levels could be better, our catching could be better. We still have a lot of work to do.

"Basically we need to keep things simple. That is the secret."

Asked about the controversial umpiring that plagued the first two Tests in Sri Lanka, Hussain said: "Certain things happened that were beyond the control of players.

"But we have a governing body and the ICC to take care of that.

"The Sri Lanka series win was much better than anything we've done before. Bearing in mind the conditions, going 1-0 down in the series and the opposition, it was hugely taxing for the players."
