Murray hurries past Tursunov

Easy winner: Andy Murray
13 April 2012

Andy Murray enjoyed a happy return to Hamburg today, 12 months after his season was ruined there.

The British No1 missed the French Open and Wimbledon after suffering a serious wrist injury in Germany in 2007.

But in the first round of the Hamburg Masters he saw off Russian Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 6-1. It was only Murray's fourth victory on clay this season and he got off to the perfect start, breaking the world No31 in the third game of the first set.

Trailing 5-3, Tursunov saved set point with a smart return but Murray, seeded No15, was not to be denied and closed out the set with a love game.

Tursunov held his first service game of the second set only for Murray to then seize control with some astute clay-court play.

Although the Briton missed his first match-point opportunity he didn't waste a second and will next meet Gilles Simon, who beat Xavier Malisse 6-4, 7-5.
