Moyes sets sights on record haul

Manager David Moyes is aiming for an Everton points record in the Barclays Premier League, but Derby boss Paul Jewell admits he now only cares about next season.

Everton's 1-0 win over the Rams on Sunday took them to 60 points for the campaign - three behind Liverpool in the race for Champions League qualification - and two points shy of their previous best Premier League tally of 61, achieved in 1996 and 2005.

"That's 60 points, and we have won 18 games in the Premier League - and with five to go, we can end with a very healthy tally in an excellent position," said Moyes.

Leon Osman scored the second-half winner against Derby, and afterwards Moyes said: "We are optimistic. We believe we can still catch Liverpool.

"We are having to push them [the players] towards the end of the season to keep them going. It has been a long, hard campaign.

"It was not a terrific display, but we have had some great performances at home this season and are still in with a shout. It was a hard game, but the only important thing was three points and another victory."

Jewell saw his side produce a hugely-improved display, having already been relegated.

But he said: "The only thing I am now interested in is next season and how we do back in the Championship.

"That was better - in fact, it was not just a little better but miles better than when I first arrived.

"I felt we deserved a point; we passed the ball really well and we lacked that bit of quality in the box, maybe a bit of belief, and care at times - but the work we put in was good throughout."
