Morgan living World Cup dream

Eoin Morgan is all set for his second World Cup campaign, and insists this time his lifelong dreams really have come true.

The Irishman was an ever-present for his native country as they reached the Super Eight stage of the 2007 edition in the Caribbean. But having replaced the injured Kevin Pietersen in England's squad - and in line to play against Bangladesh on Friday - this tournament is the real deal for the 24-year-old.

"I have played a World Cup for Ireland," he said. "But all through that World Cup, I said I wanted to play for England - which has always been the bigger picture and bigger plan - so it is a dream come true."

Morgan is one of two replacements required by England this week after Stuart Broad's side strain came to light within a day of Pietersen's failure to handle his hernia pain.

England have applied to the International Cricket Council for Chris Tremlett to replace Broad, but it is Morgan who is most likely to be called upon immediately.

If so, he is hoping to put behind him a moderate campaign - by his high standards - before a broken finger ended his one-day international series against Australia a match early last month.

"I just didn't play well," said the left-hander. "Some games I gave it away too easily and got out to bad balls. All I can do is learn from that. It was a bad series for me, but I hope I can learn and move on."

Morgan is almost certain to return at his specialist position in the middle order.

"I have been very successful at number five in the past, and it is my favourite position to bat," he added.

"I find coming in in the middle overs and being a left-hander and playing spin okay is one of the better parts of my game, so I love batting at five."
