'Miracle on Ice' coach dies

Herb Brooks, the United States Olympic ice hockey coach who orchestrated the so-called 'Miracle on Ice' win over the Soviet Union in 1980, has died at the age of 66 after a road accident in northern Minnesota.

Brooks was driving alone when his car rolled over and he was thrown out.

He was best known for coaching a group of American college players to a 4-3 semi-final defeat of the powerful USSR en route to a gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.
