Millard joins Wakefield exodus

12 April 2012

Fiji international Daryl Millard became the third player to leave troubled Wakefield in as many days on Wednesday when he signed for Catalan Dragons.

The 25-year-old former St George and Canterbury Bulldogs centre is the latest player to be sold by the administrators running the Wildcats as they wait for local businessman Andrew Glover to complete his takeover.

On Monday, Hull swooped for half-back Sam Obst and Huddersfield picked up second rower Dale Ferguson on Tuesday.

All three players appeared in Wakefield's opening-day 40-20 defeat by Castleford at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

Millard, who scored 11 tries in 22 appearances in his first season with the Wildcats despite being out for six weeks with a knee injury, will plug the gap at Stade Gilbert Brutus caused by the close-season departure of Australian centre or second rower Dane Carlaw.

"It took more than three weeks of negotiations to get him to come to Perpignan," said Catalan chairman Bernard Guasch.

"He is a young, fast and elegant player and the kind of player we needed."

Millard will fly out to Perpignan this week but will not play against Wakefield in Saturday's match at Gilbert Brutus.

"I always wanted to sign a centre following the departure of Dane Carlaw," said coach Trent Robinson.

"I sought an experienced player and especially one able to adapt to our system of play."
