Megson out of Wolves running

13 April 2012

Wolves chairman Rick Hayward has conceded Gary Megson's stint as West Brom boss must rule him out of the running for the vacant managerial position at Wolves.

Hayward, who succeeded his father, Sir Jack, as chairman in December 2003, had sacked previous Wolves boss Dave Jones at the start of the month with Megson, who had been ousted at The Hawthorns, named among the bookmakers' favourites to assume control at Molineux.

But Hayward, a Bahamian-based entrepreneur, told Sky Sports News: "We've had something like 102 applications for the post and some of those one would not take too seriously.

"There are also one or two the fans would simply not allow.

"In fact, they would hang me from the rafters at Molineux if someone who used to manage West Brom were given the job.

"That's football and a side of it I don't yet understand, but I'm getting there."
