McRae wins in Argentina

13 April 2012

Britain's Colin McRae won the Rally Argentina, pipping compatriot Richard Burns by 26.9 seconds for his first victory - and points finish - of the season.

Ford Focus driver McRae successfully defended the lead he had so assiduously built up since Thursday from Burns in his Subaru.

McRae won the final two stages with overall championship leader Tommi Makinen, who finished fourth, and world champion Marcus Gronholm, who retired with engine trouble, taking the other two.

McRae's team-mate Carlos Sainz of Spain came in third, one minute 46.4 seconds off the pace, to close the gap on Makinen by a point.
