McIlroy makes his move

12 April 2012

Northern Ireland teenager Rory McIlroy moved into a tie for the lead with Swedish duo Johan Edfors and Mikael Lundberg at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship after completing a six-under-par first round.

McIlroy, 19, picked up two shots over the final six holes of his first round after Thursday's play was delayed after a hailstorm flooded the course.

Edfors and Lundberg both carded opening rounds of 66 on Thursday to set the clubhouse lead.

England's Robert Rock wrapped up his first round with back-to-back birdies as he, compatriot Anthony Wall and Sweden's Peter Hanson joined Spain's Ignacio Garrido, Oliver Fisher, Italian Francesco Molinari and Swede Jarmo Sandelin at five under.

Hanson birdied the last on Friday morning to move within a shot of the lead, while Wall made his move with a birdie at the par-four 14th.
