Mauresmo out of US Open

12 April 2012

Former Wimbledon champion Amelie Mauresmo has pulled out of this year's US Open because of injury.

A nagging groin problem has prevented the world number seven from playing any singles tournaments since July, when she lost in the fourth round at Wimbledon.

"As I explained several weeks ago, I need to take the necessary time to rediscover my desire and to be able to be at my best level for when I return," the Frenchwoman, a former world number one, said on her own official website, www.ameliemauresmo.fr.

"In my absence, I will continue to follow my physical plan."

She has targeted a return in September for the tournament in Beijing.

Mauresmo reached the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows in both 2002 and 2006, but has not progressed further.
