Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea would be a great signing for Real Madrid, according to club legend Paco Buyo.

De Gea appears set to leave Old Trafford for the Bernabeu this summer and he may have played his final game for United.

Buyo believes De Gea, who has not signed a new contract offered to him by United, would be a great replacement for Iker Casillas.

“David is doing very well at Manchester United," said Buyo. “He is a goalkeeper who has great impact and he is likely to be Casillas' replacement within the national team. If Madrid move to sign him and believe he is the right goalkeeper, I think it is a good choice.”

Buyo has also backed Rafael Benitez to replace Carlo Ancelotti if he is sacked.

Napoli manager Benitez has emerged as a leading candidate to become the next Real boss. Ancelotti is widely expected to leave his job after this weekend's final game of the season against Getafe.

"Benitez is a coach who is prestigious and has won many trophies," said Buyo. "He has trained a lot of big clubs."
