Lynn keeps victory in sight

13 April 2012

David Lynn fired a superb six-under-par 66 in the first round of the Portuguese Open, despite playing the course blind in more ways than one.

The Englishman was unable to practise at Quinta da Lago after arriving late Tuesday evening and not being in yesterday's pro-am.

He also had problems with his contact lenses and hay fever today.

But the sore and bloodshot eyes did not stop him from claiming the early lead, which he shares with Swede Niclas Fasth and David Higgins of Ireland.

They hold a one shot lead over Swede Patrik Sjoland, Kiwi Elliot Boult and England's David Howell.

Title favourite Colin Montgomerie was finding it tough and was two over after 10.
