Lord's Test fears unveiled

13 April 2012

It has emerged that England's players were warned to beware of a potential plot to fix the result of their first Test against Pakistan at Lord's last month.

Nasser Hussain's side eventually won the match by an innings and nine runs before the tourists levelled the series with a 108-run victory at Old Trafford.

An ECB spokesman told the Mail on Sunday: "As a result of the warning of a possible threat to influence the outcome of the first Test, the England players were reminded of the need for ever-present vigilance and to report any suspicious approaches to the team management."

Anti-Corruption Unit chief Lord Condon added: "The information we received demanded that we take this potential threat seriously, which is why the England Cricket Board and the Pakistan Cricket Board were advised of the situation."
