Lockyer claims second award

12 April 2012

Australia captain Darren Lockyer has become the second player to win the Golden Boot award twice as international player of the year.

Lockyer, who has led the Kangaroos to Saturday's final of the Tri-Nations Series, emulates the feat of fellow countryman Andrew Johns in claiming the prestigious award twice since its inception in 1985.

The Brisbane Broncos skipper was also named international back of the year, while team-mate Greg Inglis was named international newcomer of the year.

Great Britain captain Jamie Peacock was named international forward of the year at the awards night in Sydney.

Other winners were New Zealander Brian McClennan, who was named coach of the year, and Australian-born Ashley Klein, one of Super League's leading officials, who was named referee of the year.
