Rafa Benitez has admitted the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster could inspire Liverpool to pull off a dramatic comeback.

A memorial service will take place at Anfield tomorrow to commemorate the 96 people who died in Sheffield after being crushed at an FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

And Benitez said: "For some players like Jamie Carragher, the anniversary will be extra motivation. Since I first went to the memorial service — an amazing ceremony, very emotional — I've received more information about what happened.

"Last week, we received some information from somebody that was there.

"He came to see us and he brought a document that told his memories.

"It was very personal. He had people around him dying. It left a lasting impression on me. It would be fantastic to get through for everyone at the club and the families but I don't want to mix both things.

"We know the odds are against us. But it could be an extra motivation for our players to do well."
