Lewington calls for basic instinct

Manager Ray Lewington has called on his players to go back to basics for tonight's Carling Cup visit to Bristol City.

Watford have lost five of their last seven league games and are looking for some relief against the Second Division side.

Lewington said: "We've got to get back to doing the basics of the game very well. I'm experienced enough to know that weird and wonderful formulas won't get us out of trouble.

"Getting the basics spot on will pay dividends eventually. We've got to cut out the unforced errors, battle our way through and not let mistakes affect us on the pitch."
