Lehmann was hospitalised, DFB confirm

14 April 2012

Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann needed hospital treatment following Wednesday night's 3-0 win over Sweden, the German Football Association (DFB) confirmed on Thursday.

The 36-year-old Arsenal custodian was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Gelsenkirchen around midnight after feeling faint while eating in the Arena AufSchalke after the friendly match.

Investigations found hypoglycaemia - a condition which sees the body`s blood-sugar level drop below a certain level - to be the root of the problem.

Lehmann was released after a short time in hospital and was able to fly back to London on Thursday.

He should return to training with Arsenal after having further tests and talks with the club's medical staff, according to the DFB's website.
