Leeds swoop for former league star

12 April 2012

Promoted Leeds Carnegie have bolstered their back line with the signing of former rugby league winger Henry Fa'afili from French club Biarritz.

Fa'afili, who will turn 29 next week, has spent the last two seasons in France after switching from league and joins the Guinness Premiership newcomers on a two-year contract.

"It is the chance to have a fresh start for me and that is very exciting for me and my partner when we move to Leeds," he said.

Fa'afili won nine caps for New Zealand and topped the Super League scoring chart in his final season with Warrington with 22 tries in 29 appearances.

Before he joins up with the Leeds squad, he will be part of the Samoa squad in the Pacific Nations Cup alongside new team-mate Fosi Pala'amo.

Fa'afili is the third newcomer so far for the Headingley outfit, who have recruited Leicester second row Marco Wentzel and Alfie To'ola from Bristol, while prop Juan Gomez has joined the club on a permanent basis having been on loan from Leinster last season.
