Leeds sign Argentine winger

Leeds Tykes yesterday made Argentina winger Diego Albanese their first signing of the summer. The 28-year-old has agreed a two-year deal with the Headingley club, citing first-team rugby as the prime reason behind his move from Gloucester.

Albanese, set to win his 44th cap against France this weekend before facing England in Buenos Aires on June 22, is anxious to secure a place in the Pumas' World Cup squad next year.

He was concerned at his lack of first-team opportunities at Kingsholm, even though he played in 14 of Gloucester's 22 Premiership games last term. Albanese was not part of the side which collected the Championship crown with victory over Bristol last weekend. But Leeds director of rugby Phil Davies said: 'Diego is a quality player. He is ambitious and has the right character for our squad.'
