Lee falls at the first hurdle

13 April 2012

Britain's Martin Lee suffered a demoralising first-round defeat at the Copenhagen Open in Denmark.

The 24-year-old, who is 116th in the Champions Race, lost 7-5, 6-3 to qualifier Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic.

Stepanek's fellow countryman Jiri Novak, the top seed, advanced to the second round with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Stefan Galvani of Italy.

Novak said: "It's tough to come straight from Davis Cup and play a qualifier who's won three matches in a row, so I'm very happy."
