Lawn Tennis Association deny Boris Becker coaching role

Andy Murray aside, British tennis is in a dire state, with British number two Alex Bogdanovic ranked only 227th in the world

The Lawn Tennis Association have denied they are in talks with six-time grand slam champion Boris Becker over a coaching role in British tennis.

A report this morning claimed the German, who has a house in London, is keen to help develop new talent and may even have his eye on the position of men's head coach recently vacated by Paul Annacone.

But the LTA have poured cold water on the story, with a spokesman telling Press Association Sport: "The Lawn Tennis Association is not involved in any dialogue with Boris Becker or his representatives about a role at the LTA."

Becker's pedigree on the court is beyond question, with the three-time Wimbledon champion considered one of the best players of all time.
But his coaching experience is limited, and the LTA have recently hinted they are keen to move away from the high-profile imports that have defined chief executive Roger Draper's four-year tenure.

Annacone - who is now coaching Roger Federer - Brad Gilbert and Peter Lundgren have all been involved in trying to improve men's tennis in Britain during that period.

But, Andy Murray aside, the situation remains worse than ever, with British number two Alex Bogdanovic down at 227th in the world.
