Laura Robson makes progress in Melbourne

Making progress: Laura Robson
14 April 2012

Laura Robson moved to within one win of a place in the main draw at the Australian Open today after beating Anna Floris in second-round qualifying.

17-year-old Robson was too strong for the Italian, prevailing 6-3 6-4 in 56 minutes and she will now meet either Kiki Bertens of Holland or Ukrainian Olga Savchuk.

James Ward also enjoyed success, overcoming Ivo Minar of the Czech Republic 6-3 1-6 6-3.

Ward will take on Igor Sisling next after the Dutchman's 7-6 (8/6) 6-3 victory over Igor Andreev with the winner elevated into the first round proper.

But there was disappointment for Naomi Broady, who lost 3-6 6-2 6-0 to American Alison Riske.
