Lara leads the way

12 April 2012

Jose Manuel Lara will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the UBS Hong Kong Open on Sunday.

The Spaniard, who is chasing a maiden European Tour victory, retained his place at the top of the leaderboard as he carded a faultless four-under-par 66 which included four birdies.

Lara is now on 14 under but just behind him is Juvic Pagunsan, who was not helped by a double-bogey on the ninth. Otherwise he carded an impressive round with seven birdies, including four in succession, on the way to a 66.

Frenchman Gregory Bourdy, who briefly joined playing partner Lara on top of the leaderboard earlier in the day, carded a one-under-par 69 and is in third place on 10 under.

Defending champion Colin Montgomerie, who had been looking for a big improvement this weekend, shot his worst round of the tournament so far, carding a level-par 70.

The Scot cancelled out four birdies with four bogeys to leave him at five under going into the final round.

Miguel Angel Jimenez is on nine under after he carded a 66, his best round of the tournament, while compatriot Alejandro Canizares shot the best round of the day with a 63.
