Lance Armstrong's painful farewell

Capitulation: Lance Armstrong says his Tour is finished
13 April 2012

Lance Armstrong says he will try and enjoy the rest of his final Tour de France after admitting his chances of an eighth title are over.

The American capitulated on the first Alpine stage from Station des Rousses to Morzine-Avoriaz, falling twice as he finished 11 minutes 45 seconds behind winner Andy Schleck.

Armstrong, who is now more than 13 minutes adrift of leader Cadel Evans, said: "My Tour's finished but I'll hang in there and enjoy my final Tour. I'm not going to complain. This is just a bad day. It went from bad to worse."

Britain's Bradley Wiggins finished 19th and is now two minutes 45 seconds behind Australian Evans.
