Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul produced a man-of-the-match display to keep the Magpies riding high in the Barclays Premier League with a 2-1 win over Wolves.

Krul made a handful of stunning saves as Wanderers slumped to a fourth consecutive defeat, despite Steven Fletcher setting up a frantic finish with a diving header in the 88th minute.

With Krul in magnificent form at one end, it was Demba Ba and Jonas Gutierrez who saw United home at the other to extend their unbeaten top-flight run to 10 games.

Krul pulled off a full-stretch save in the second minute to keep out Jamie O'Hara's 22-yard curling free-kick.

Ba fired Newcastle ahead on 17 minutes. Nobody picked up his run from a Yohan Cabaye corner and he nodded home from close range to claim his fourth goal in two games.

Krul pulled off another great save to keep out a Kevin Doyle strike that deflected off Steven Taylor and Ryan Taylor blocked Matt Jarvis' follow-up.

Gutierrez made it 2-0 when he picked up a stray Karl Henry pass and cut inside skipper Roger Johnson before beating Hennessey.

Krul then pulled off a double save to thwart Fletcher and 58th-minute substitute Adam Hammill.

Three minutes from time Fletcher made it eight goals in his last 12 league games with a diving header from Hammill cross.

Then in the first of five minutes added time, Wolves thought they had grabbed an equaliser. But Doyle's close-range stab was ruled out as the cross in the build up was adjudged to have gone over the dead-ball line.
