Keown, Henry on flight to Spain

Thierry Henry and Martin Keown were in the Arsenal squad which flew to Spain this morning for tomorrow's Champions League clash against Deportivo La Coruna.

But manager Arsene Wenger will not select either unless he is convinced of their fitness.

French striker Henry has been out for two weeks with a bruised bone in his ankle and missed his country's game against Australia in Melbourne as well as the derby against Tottenham on Saturday.

He had been expected to miss the game in Spain and was considered doubtful for Sunday's Premiership showdown with Manchester United at Highbury.

But he was able to train yesterday and kick a ball for the first time.

Henry felt some discomfort and Wenger may opt to leave him on the bench against La Coruna. The likely front line partnership is Nwankwo Kanu and Sylvain Wiltord.

England defender Keown bruised a rib against Tottenham and, although there was considerable improvement yesterday, if he fails a fitness test then Matthew Upson will partner Sol Campbell at the heart of the defence.

Upson was injured against Germans Schalke at the start of the month but he has been able to train flat out recently.

Ray Parlour finished the 1-1 draw with a tight hamstring but he should be fit.

Fredrik Ljungberg and Giovanni van Bronckhorst are also in contention for places alongside Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires in midfield.

Striker Francis Jeffers, who has been plagued by injuries since his £9 million move from Everton in the summer, was seeing a specialist today about a damaged injury.

It is possible he will need surgery but the likelihood is that Arsenal will opt instead to see if he can recover without an operation.

England goalkeeper David Seaman was due to start light training today. He has been sidelined by a shoulder injury.

One player not in contention tomorrow is defender Oleg Luzhny, who starts a four-match suspension after being sent off against Schalke.

Arsenal, who have yet to score an away win in the Champions League this season, face a huge challenge against Deportivo.

They beat them 5-1 at Highbury in the UEFA Cup two years ago, going through 6-2 on aggregate, but Deportivo went on to win the Spanish title that season and are currently top of the table with eight wins and two draws from 13 games.
