Kanoute: I've talked to Liverpool

13 April 2012

West Ham striker Frederic Kanoute claimed today he has had contacts with Liverpool over a possible transfer during the summer.

He said: "Liverpool sound interested and so am I, even though I'm happy at West Ham and still have a two-year contract."

Kanoute, rated at £10 million, believes any decision might depend on whether Liverpool sign Nicolas Anelka on a permanent deal from Paris St Germain.

Fellow striker Paolo Di Canio is wanted by Italian side Chievo Verona, who qualified for the UEFA Cup in their first season in Serie A.

Chievo official Giovanni Sartoric said: "There is a friendship between Di Canio and our president Luigi Campedelli. The two are in contact with each other and it is obvious that the former Lazio player interests Chievo because of his characteristics and value."

However Chievo, who caused a surprise by qualifying for the UEFA Cup in their first season in Serie A, may find Di Canio's wage demands too much.

"An eventual negotiation will not be easy because of the player's high wages," said Sartoric.
