Kanoute: Defoe link is working

Fredi Kanoute is confident of forming a lethal partnership with Jermain Defoe.

The former West Ham pair started together against Crystal Palace on Tuesday and were also in tandem for the 5-1 victory over Southampton.

Although Tottenham head coach Martin Jol has also paired Robbie Keane with Kanoute, the Mali striker is particularly enjoying his link-up with 16-goal Defoe.

Kanoute said: "We are playing well and proving we complement each other. But I think there is more to come and we can do much better. We are young and have a lot to learn."

Kanoute has been one of Tottenham's outstanding players during a six-match unbeaten run. Criticised for an inexplicable handball in the Carling Cup defeat by Liverpool, he has responded with two goals and a host of assists in the last month.

He said: "What happened against Liverpool will happen to every player. You then have to show whether or not you are strong."

Despite drawing with Palace, Kanoute says confidence remains high ahead of upcoming fixtures against Everton, Man United and Chelsea. He said: "We can get a European place."
