Kallis sees Proteas home

12 April 2012

Jacques Kallis ground out a steady unbeaten 66 off 86 balls to guide South Africa to a seven-wicket victory over Ireland in their World Cup Super Eight match at Providence Stadium, Guyana.

In a rain-affected match the Irish posted 152 for eight off a reduced 35 overs as Andrew White top-scored with 30.

There were valuable contributions from Eoin Morgan (28) and Niall O`Brien (25) early on while Dave Langford-Smith blasted 17 off 10 balls at the end to help boost the total.

South Africa, chasing a Duckworth-Lewis revised total of 160, recovered from the early loss of AB de Villiers, who fell without scoring to Boyd Rankin, as captain Graeme Smith made 41 off 45 balls before Kallis and Ashwell Prince (47 not out) won the match with 21 balls to spare.
