Justine short of power on grass - Davenport

Lindsay Davenport today questioned whether Justin Henin-Hardenne is good enough on grass to win Wimbledon. The Belgian former world No1 won the French Open and is second-favourite behind Maria Sharapova.

But top seed Davenport, champion in 1999, said: "I think she is by far the best clay-courter in women's tennis. She has obviously proved that this season.

"We'll see on grass, though. It gives the big hitters more of an advantage against her than on the clay. She also has a tough section of the draw with both Serena and Venus Williams, who are obviously great grass-court players."

Henin-Hardenne's quest for a full set of Grand Slam titles starts today against Greece's Eleni Daniilidou.

Davenport has already booked her place in the second round after a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Russia's Alina Jidkova.

Having made the semi-finals the US Open and lost in the final of the Australian Open, Davenport is determined to justify her No1 world ranking with another Grand Slam title.

The 29-year-old American said: "I've had a wonderful ride in the last 12 months. I feel like I'm playing well enough and the ultimate goal is to win another Slam."
