Jones to answer Kiwi call

12 April 2012

Stacey Jones, captain of Super League wooden spoonists Catalans Dragons, has been named in New Zealand's squad for the defence of their Tri-Nations crown.

The 30-year-old scrum-half came out of international retirement to spearhead the Kiwis' stunning victory in last year's series in England and has made himself available for this year's campaign.

He is the only Super League player named so far, although Motu Tony (Hull), Shontayne Hape (Bradford) and Jason Cayless (St Helens) are expected to receive call-ups once their clubs finish their season.

Bradford winger Lesley Vainikolo is expected to be unavailable as he needs knee surgery.

Nine players from New Zealand Warriors are included in the 27-strong squad.

The Kiwis begin the defence of their title against Australia in Auckland on October 14.
