Blackburn defender Phil Jones is set to undergo surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee on Monday afternoon, the club have confirmed.

Jones came on as a substitute during Rovers' 1-1 draw with West Ham at Ewood Park on Saturday but lasted only 10 minutes before hobbling off after falling awkwardly in a challenge with Carlton Cole. The teenager had a scan on the knee on Sunday and it is feared he may be sidelined for the rest of the season.

Blackburn club doctor Phil Batty told www.rovers.co.uk: "Phil has torn his lateral meniscus (cartilage), but there is no other damage in the knee. He will have surgery this Monday afternoon with the intention to repair the tear, (but) everything else in the knee is fine."
