Jol: Linesman was too far away

Standard Sport14 April 2012
Martin Jol (Tottenham head coach)

"It's a disgrace, considering you are playing football in 2005 and there is so much technology in the world. It is time to use the technology. This wasn't a couple of centimetres, it was two feet. I thought it could have been a goal but the linesman was too far away. He should have been closer to the goal. We feel a bit robbed."

Sir Alex Ferguson (Man Utd manager)

"It looked to be over the line, but I wasn't dead sure (at the time). We could have monitors by the pitch, you can make a decision in 30 seconds - which is the time it can take for a goal-kick or corner to be taken. It wouldn't kill the game in terms of wasting time. This hammers home what a lot of people have been asking for in terms of technology."

Peter Schmeichel (ex-United goalkeeper)

"The mistake by the goalkeeper was extraordinary. I don't know what Roy Carroll was doing. Rob Lewis the linesman is not very quick. But what I think happens is that the angle of the linesman means that he cannot see it is in - and if he cannot see it he cannot give it. I don't think he could have done any more."
