Jol - Chelsea are way ahead

14 April 2012

Tottenham coach Martin Jol believes the rest of the Barclays Premiership are wasting their time trying to wrest the title from Chelsea.

The Dutch coach is adamant Jose Mourinho's men will be champions for the next two years at least.

"I don't think there are a lot of clubs with better quality players (than Tottenham) but I think Chelsea are even stronger now and so for the next couple of years they will be the champions of England."

He added: "I still feel that Manchester United and Liverpool are getting stronger.

"Arsenal have made a couple of buys and have all the attacking possibilities in Freddie Ljungberg, Thierry Henry, Jose Antonio Reyes and new signing Tomas Rosicky.

"I think Chelsea probably used 20 players overall last season. Mourinho played his best team all the time. But that is a good thought to have 20 good players and then possibly four or five young good players. The time is over when you have got 34 or 35 players because it is unworkable."

The continued dominance of the `big four` has not dented Jol's enthusiasm for the coming battle and he is determined to go one better than last season and break their stranglehold on the leading positions.

Tottenham narrowly missed out on a place in the Champions League last season - losing out to arch-rivals Arsenal on a dramatic final day that was overshadowed by an alleged outbreak of food poisoning at the Spurs team hotel.

Jol added: "What happened last season was a big disappointment. But it was a reality of life and at least we have European football.

"Arsenal were probably a bit stronger in the final month of the season. For us it is important we are contenders for the top flight and that is European football. Then we want to aim high. We want to challenge the top four clubs and hopefully it will be next year. But it will be difficult to get more than 65 points."
