The striker must ask to leave before Everton boss David Moyes will sell him and the £8m capture from Crystal Palace is going to do that in the next few days, according to reports in the Mirror.

He has become unsettled at Goodison Park and aware of the massive interest in him.

He could pick up £50,000- a-week from Latics chairman Dave Whelan and could move quickly and go to the JJB despite interest from Sunderland and Middlesbrough in his signature.

The ex-Crystal Palace and Birmingham forward would have preferred a return to London, with West Ham in the frame but the Londoners are unable to raise the funds.

If Johnson does go, Everton have put Tottenham's Darren Bent at the top of the wish list but the striker's £12m asking price is putting them off.
