American Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk has revealed there was a ‘very brief’ altercation between USA stars Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson.

Following Europe’s 17.5-10.5 humbling of Furyk’s team, the highest ranking side assembled in Ryder Cup history, fissions began appearing in visiting team room.

After Patrick Reed had lashed out at teammate Jordan Spieth and his captain, reports emerged on the Monday that world No1 Johnson and close friend Koepka had to be separated in the European dressing room, having joined Thomas Bjorn’s victorious 12 for drinks.

Koepka firmly denied the reports at a press conference in Scotland last week saying he and Johnson remain close friends and have never argued. While Furyk says there has been no change in the relationship of the duo, dubbed the ‘Bash Brothers’, he did admitted that there had been a coming together of some form.

"Whatever altercation started, or what happened, it was very brief. It was very short,” Furyk told Golf Channel.

“Neither one of them really took anything out of it.

"They're like brothers. Brothers may argue, brothers get into it. But they're as close as they've ever been, and it really had no effect on either one of them."

On Reed’s outburst claiming he had been ‘blindsided’ in not being paired with Spieth and instead going out with Tiger Woods, before complaining about being rested having played woefully at Le Golf National, Furyk also revealed that the Masters champion had known for weeks that he would be with Woods.

"When I started looking at who [Tiger] would pair well with, I kept coming back to Patrick Reed," Furyk added.

"There was always the idea that we could go Tiger and JT [Justin Thomas], and Patrick and Jordan, but ultimately they knew going into the week, weeks in advance, they knew they would start the Ryder Cup with Patrick and Tiger being partners."
