Jesters are still hoping to play

Despite failing to meet yesterday's deadline to pay the £150,000 owed to players from last season's squad, Newcastle Jesters haven't given up hope of lining up in this season's Superleague.

Newcastle are yet to play a game but have promised to pay the money within days in an attempt to belatedly join the other seven Superleague sides who are already two months into the season.

The league will make a final decision during an extraordinary general meeting next Wednesday.
