Jelena Jankovic loses after fearing twist in the tale

13 April 2012

Jelena Jankovic was knocked out of the San Diego Classic and then admitted she has fears over her fitness ahead of the US Open, which starts on 30 August.

The world No2 lost 7-5, 6-2 to Russia's Alisa Kleybanova and revealed she is still troubled by an ankle problem suffered a couple of months ago.

Jankovic lacked mobility and accuracy and said: "I had some fear moving because I was afraid I would twist it again. I'm not confident where I have to move side to side and play an intense match."

After her second-round win, Kleybanova, ranked No28, said: "If I'm playing my best, then the way I hit the ball is fast enough to make winners against her."
