Is Fergie on his way to Barca?

13 April 2012

Barcelona could move in for Sir Alex Ferguson next week after he announced he will leave Old Trafford for good at the end of next season.

Ferguson has confirmed he will sever all ties with Old Trafford when his present contract expires and is not interested in a seat on the United board.

Barca president Joan Gaspart sees Ferguson as the man to rekindle the fortunes of the ailing Catalan giants.

And he is reportedly willing to more than double his present salary to bring him to the Nou Camp.

Ferguson has always denied that he would move to the continent but speculation is rife that he has had a bust-up with the board over money for new players and he could walk away now.

Ferguson said: "I do not know if I will manage another club. I will be leaving Manchester United at the end of the season and that is it.

"Then I will have to decide what I want to do. There are some offers and options, so I will make a decisions over the next few months."

Ferguson admitted he will be sad to leave Old Trafford and so far the club have refused to elaborate on the reasons behind the Scot's shock decision.

"Managing Manchester United has been the pinnacle of my career. There is a fantastic support here and great players, with great character who should be proud of what they have achieved.

"I am in a healthy position because my own health is good and while you never know what you are going to do, the most important thing is to remain active."
