Irish given academy

London Irish are to host one of 12 elite regional academies. It will be based at their training HQ at Sunbury and will groom teenage players from south-west London for the senior game.

It will be the responsibility of Conor O'Shea, the club's director of rugby.

The Rugby Football Union licence is valid for three years and starts immediately.

O'Shea said "We have been working closely with the RFU over recent months and I am delighted they have granted us a licence."
