Inzamam in confident mood

12 April 2012

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq remains confident he will be cleared of ball-tampering allegations, claiming umpire Darrell Hair is now in "big trouble" over the fourth Test fiasco.

Officials from the Pakistan Cricket Board have written to the International Cricket Council to complain about Australian umpire Hair's behaviour and hope it will be scrutinised before Inzamam's disciplinary hearing is held next month.

"I'm sure 100% because I have done nothing. That is why I am doing these things, because I know we are not guilty and that is why we take this stance," Inzamam told Sky Sports News. "Darrell is in big trouble, I don't know why he is doing these things."

He added: "I'm quite happy for us to play the game after half an hour - and then the next day - because we had launched our protest. I don't know why he was not interested in playing."

Hair, 53, and Inzamam were the men at the centre of the first forfeiture in 129 years of Test cricket at the Brit Oval against England over a week ago.

Hair and fellow umpire Billy Doctrove penalised Pakistan for ball tampering on the fourth day which led to Inzamam fronting a sit-in protest after tea - the latter now faces a charge of altering the condition of the ball, as captain of the side, and one of bringing the game into disrepute.

"We are not pressing any charges, we are simply requesting that Mr Hair should be investigated," said PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan.
