I'm not retiring yet, says Cecil

13 April 2012

Henry Cecil today denied claims that he was considering retiring next year.

The trainer called his staff together this morning to reassure them their jobs were not in danger.

He said: "It's completely untrue. I am quoted as saying I'm looking forward to next year and will take it from day to day from then. In fact, I made a point of saying I was hoping to have a better season."

John Lowe, one of Cecil's most trusted work-riders, said: "This morning there was a big notice telling all of us to meet in the main tack-room.

"Mr Cecil spent at least 15 minutes telling everyone he was not retiring and our jobs were safe."
