I'll prove board were right, says Boothroyd

Adrian Boothroyd says the Watford board will be proved right over their decision to sack Ray Lewington.

The former Leeds coach, who was appointed last month, celebrated his first victory as a manager courtesy of Heidar Helguson's strike in the 1-0 success at Rotherham.

He said: "I'd like to stand up for the chairman and the board who have taken a bit of a kicking from various quarters recently. It took real guts to bring in someone like me and, hopefully, this will be the start of a good time at Watford and their decision to appoint me will be vindicated.

"This is only one win but for where I want to go and where these players want to go, it's just the start."

The result moved Watford two points clear of the Championship relegation zone.
