Hutton hits back in Sorensen row

Flashpoint: Hutton’s challenge on keeper Sorensen

Alan Hutton was asked to defend himself against accusations from Thomas Sorensen that he had tried to injure the Stoke goalkeeper in a challenge during Spurs' 2-1 defeat at the Britannia Stadium last Sunday.

Defender Hutton said: "Of course I did not go out to hurt Sorensen. At first I didn't think I caught him. I apologised at the time to Sorensen and his team-mates.

"I have been in that position myself and I would never go out to harm anybody.

"It's harsh for him to say I did because I have said sorry.

"I wouldn't put the blame on anybody for the tackles on me because football is a contact sport and these things happen but I would like to say sorry again.

"It does leave a bit of a sour taste because it was unintentional. For someone to come out and say I meant it does leave a sour taste."

Earlier this week, Sorensen condemned the challenge, claiming it had almost cost him his sight.

The Dane was substituted with blood pouring from a head wound after being caught in the face by Hutton in a challenge which saw the Scotland international booked.

"It was a millimetre off me losing my sight," Sorensen said.

"I have been sewn up in the eye socket but it is miraculous there's no more damage.

"We are at a stage where it is not funny any more.

"He could have avoided hitting me. He had no chance to reach the ball but he still threw himself into it, leading with his studs.

"The doctor has done a very good job so my face is not totally destroyed."
